If you are visiting Mt Tamborine between the dates of June 25th to 27th you could think that you have walked into a scene from a Stephen King novel.
Don’t worry, it’s just the Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival! What doesn’t every town have a scarecrow festival?
Now in its third year, organisers are expecting the scarecrow turnout to be bigger than ever! Local resident and event creator Bernard Phare dreamed up the event to overcome the doom and gloom that the global financial crisis was engulfing the world with. This was his way of bringing a little fun and festivity into Mt Tamborine life for residents and amusement for visitors.
Scarecrows will be displayed outside of homes and places of business in the hope of winning the $1000 prize money. The event also features two days of live entertainment and festivities, Saturday 26th June there will be bands, street performers, buskers and the Festival Queen in Main Street. On the Sunday the action will more to Gallery Walk.
